About the Board
The Dental Board of Tasmania is the body responsible for registration of Dentists, Dental Therapists and Dental Hygienists in Tasmania. In addition to administering the scheme of registration, the Dental Practitioners Registration Act 2001 also charges the Board with responsibility for:
- monitoring the standard and provision of dental services in Tasmania and
investigating complaints and, as necessary, undertaking disciplinary action
against registered practitioners, and
- monitoring standards of education and training for dentists, dental therapists
and dental hygienists.

*** By-law No. 23/06/2006 - Making and Maintaining Dental Records ***
This By-law has now been made and adopted as part of the Dental Code. The By-law 23/06/2006 is effective as from 1 September 2006; all practitioners are encouraged to become familiar with the By-law. The By-law can be accessed/downloaded under

*** General Anaesthesia and Conscious Sedation ***
The Board’s Consultative Sub-committee has completed a first DRAFT of a proposed by-law for the purpose of providing practical guidance and direction as to the standards registered practitioners are required to follow in relation to general anaesthesia and conscious sedation for dental procedures. Copies of the DRAFT can be viewed and/or downloaded at the above link
The DRAFT is a public document and the Board would welcome submissions from registered practitioners and any other interested persons. The closing date for submissions is Wednesday, 21 March 2007.
